Homework: Students generally will have approximately 30 minutes of homework Monday-Thursday. Some projects many require students to work on the weekends.
 
Reading- Over the course of the year we will be reading from a variety of text. They include, but are not limited to: fiction story elements, science text, social studies text, functional text, ancillary text, plays, poems, and novels,
 
Writing- We will be writing for three purposes. They are expository, persuasive and narrative/creative writing. 
 
Math- Third graders will be covering these units:
Addition, Subtraction and the Number System
Data Analysis
Perimeter, Angles and Area
Multiplication and Division
Fractions and Decimals
Patterns, Functions and Change
Geometry and Measurement
 
Social Studies and Science- We will alternate our Social Studies and Science units by grading term.
 
Term One- Social Studies            The main focus is geography, immigration   and culture.

Term Two- Science                    We will study the units of Populations and Chemical Tests
 
Term Three- Social Studies       The main focus is on economics, community and the environment.
 
Term Four- Science                   We will study the unit of Rocks, Soils and Fossils
 
Additionally we will complete our Personal Body Safety Unit and Drug Unit during the fourth term.
