Pre Kindergarten

Schedule   Pre-Kindergarten
Monday-Thursday
 
·        Arrival- Incoming Mail- Bathroom
 
·        Morning Gathering- Attendance, Pledge, Calendar and Math
   Concepts
·        Sound Games- Phonological and Phonemic Awareness (The ability
                               to orally manipulate spoken words. Many of these games
                                   use gross motor skills and music.)
 
·        Small Groups- Children will be split into two or three groups based on children’s abilities. During small group time children will work in groups on the following activities:
 
ABC Time- Phonics & Fluency (The ability to connect oral language to   
                written concepts and do it quickly and smoothly.) 
 
Word Time- Vocabulary (Extending oral language knowledge.)
 
Math  or  Fine Motor Skills- Building strength in hands and fingers, then beginning   
                                 writing skills.
 
·        Centers, Hand Washing, Snack and Assessment
 
·        Listening- (Literature with comprehension and vocabulary)
 
·        Bus Time- (Coats on, mail, zip-up book bags, line up in bus order)



 
  
Pre-Kindergarten Friday
 
 
·        Arrival- Incoming Mail- Bathroom
 
·        Morning Gathering- Attendance, Pledge, Calendar and Math
   Concepts
 
·        Whole Group Interaction Time- This is a flexible teaching time. It will include different activities such as interactive writing, math, Science, Social Studies and reviewing needed skills.
 
·        Mrs. Mitchell’s Play Group/ Guidence Lessons- Mrs. Mitchell will come once a month to do a whole group guidance lesson. On the other Friday’s, with your permission, she will take three to four children at a time to her room for a play date. During this time she will work with the children on appropriate play and encourageing polite words. (A letter will come home shortly from Mrs. Mitchell explaining this program and asking for your permission)
 
·        Library- Children will go to the library. Mrs. Baldwin will have a listening time including comprehension and or vocabulary. The children will be able to check out a book. The book needs to be returned weekly.
 
·        Hand Washing and Snack Time
 
·        Bus Time- (Coats on, mail, zip-up book bags, line up in bus order)



Pre- Kindergarten Objectives
 
Routines and Self-Help Skills:
 
Learn to follow the routines of the day
Follow directions in total group and small group situations
Use of scissors/paintbrushes/markers and other “hands-on” materials
Learning to read their first name so that they can locate their nametags
Learn to use the mouse on the computer to manipulate the cursor/arrow within our software programs
Zip and un-zip their backpacks
Get their coats on
Use the bathroom facility, wash/dry their hands, clean-up after snack
 
Social/Emotional Skills and Expressive Language:
 
State their basic needs politely with both teachers and peers
Learn to share “space”, toys, turn-taking, and teacher attention
Communicate interactively with peers and adults
Learn to choose a variety of activities during center time
State first and last name
Answer questions about a story\Verbally share in front of a group
Developing Reading and Writing Readiness:
Use spoken words and identify, blend and or segment them i.e. Rhymes, syllables, word families etc.
    ( Phonological Awareness)
Use spoke words to isolate and manipulate individual sounds, i.e. Beginning, middle, ending
   (Phonemic Awareness)
Learn the alphabet letters and begin attaching them to sounds (Phonics)
Use circles, lines and diagonals to make letters and illustrations
Broaden existing vocabulary
Book/reading features. Ie. Cover, title, picture vs. words, word vs. sent. (Concepts About Print)
 
Developing Math Concepts:
Identify colors
Identify “same” and “different” and sort accordingly by color, size, pattern or shapes (circle, triangle, square, rectangle, oval, star)
Develop the following conceptual words: more/less/same; big/little; large/small; heavy/light; etc.
Verbally count and recognize numerals to 10
Making a set from 1 – to – 10
Understanding and continuing a pattern using two objects, sounds and or motions
Develop a bar graph by sorting objects and interpreting the results
Use positional words: over, under, above, on, etc.
Measurement opportunities using blocks, paperclips, etc. for length, height and weight
Estimating two sets of objects as more, less, about the same



Snack Schedule
Liberty Pre-Kindergarten
 
Normal Snack Requirements
 
Provide the following for twenty (20) children
 
·       5 oz drinking cups

·       Drink (1/2 gallon) Juice Perferred
 
·       Snack (nutritious)
 
·       Napkins
 


Birthday Snack Days
 
·       Your child may bring a special snack, drink, special paper cups, and/or napkins. NO party favors, stickers or “gifts” to other children please.
·       Many families bring in special cookies instead of cupcakes. This is very “teacher” friendly and brings just as much joy and excitement!
